week one

First advice - don't forget to save your new messages before you try to see your blog! LOL Silly me, I had just written my reflection and was so anxious to see the post I forgot to save it and... lost it! Now creating the blog was quite easy as I have had one for some time (thus I should have remembered to save!). I could add a link but it's in Portuguese and has nothing to do with teaching. I do it for fun to share some thoughts with friends. As for using blogs for teaching, I've thought of that but there is an issue related to the computer room. Although there is a computer in every classroom, only one room at school as enough computers for the whole class and that one is taken by ICT lessons most of the time. Besides, my ICT colleagues are very jealous of it. LOL We can use laptops but sometimes the network is not strong enough for all of them. As for asking kids to do them out of school, many haven't got a computer or internet at home. I think a class blog would be great to develop writing and commenting skills so I'll try to prepare one in advance to start in September. Do you have any ideas to share with me?

  2. Hi Sara!
I liked your blog and I felt your struggle to find the path in integrating the computer in your classroom. Don't give up you can do it. I suggest: 1-previous preparation to the lessons where you want to integrate internet; for instance use data show projectors, offline navigation, memory stick ect...2-websites and blogs prepared in advance in cds that can be navigated offline without recourse to internet and web design softwares may help in this 3- let the pupils share the burden with and never underestimate their effort they may exist some positive contributors among them.
    Best regards!

  3. Hello Sara.

I really sympathize with you regarding the access of us, class teachers, to ICT labs and classrooms. The situation is pretty much the same at my school. Sometimes I really feel like giving up when I have to plan, organize and book the lesson like it's some logistics for a major world scale event.

But I do have some ideas, though, how you might plan to use blog from September. I got them from 'How to Teach English with Technology' by G. Dudeney and N. Hockly. Public nature and broader audience of blogs make the creators, i.e. students, more responsible for what they are going to publish and that can be used as a way to deal with accuracy and correction in writing tasks. Giving your students time to write, draft, rewrite and prepare blog entries beforehand in a word processing programme can be an excellent practice for them. If you organize pair work for peer reviewing - there's another benefit. Even if they can't get into the ICT classroom themselves (which is a shame), you can upload their entries when more appropriate. Blog is a' real world' tool and the authenticity of the task can raise their motivation to a higher level.

Looking forward to your following blog posts,

    Nada
